Tips to Celebrate the Holidays While Wearing Invisalign in Kyle
During the holiday season, it’s nice to sit back, relax, and take it easy! You’ve worked hard for 11 ½ months, and now it’s that “most wonderful time of the year” when you can celebrate Christmas, family, and friends. While you set up your tree, hang stockings from the chimney with care, and roast those chestnuts on the fire, don’t forget to wear your Kyle Invisalign Aligners!
A lot of people think taking a break from work also means taking a break from orthodontics. While you may think that not wearing your aligners for just a week or two isn’t a big deal, you can actually prolong your treatment and cause more problems for yourself down the road. At Oldham Family Orthodontics in Kyle, we want to give you some tips for celebrating the holidays while staying on track with your Invisalign treatment plan.
Wear Invisalign in Kyle To Your Party
Chances are, you’ll attend at least one festive party this holiday season. While it can be tempting to leave your aligners at home so you can snack on party hors d’oeuvres all night, try to limit yourself and put your oral health as a priority. You can do most of your snacking during a 30-minute time period, and then find a bathroom nearby where you can brush your teeth and pop those aligners back in. Remember the goal is to wear Invisalign aligners for 20-22 hours a day, and a 3-hour party is included in that! Invisalign was designed to be almost invisible, so no one will even notice you’re wearing them!
Drink Hot Chocolate and Apple Cider Without Aligners In
Everyone loves a good cup of hot cocoa or spicy apple cider, but just because you’re drinking instead of eating doesn’t mean you can keep your aligners in while you enjoy your beverage. Not only will hot drinks stain your aligners, but they’ll also trap all that extra sugar, settling on your teeth for an extended period of time. Sugar and acid buildup on your teeth can lead to things like tooth decay and cavities if you make a habit of it. Think before you drink! Take your aligners out, place them in your case while enjoying your hot drink, and then brush and floss afterward before you put them back in your mouth.
Put Your Aligners in Your Case
When you take your aligners out to indulge in treats and drinks, be sure you place them in your case for safe keeping. Putting them in a napkin on a side table somewhere increases the odds of them getting thrown away, and does not deter chubby little hands from reaching out and snatching them. Aligners exposed to open air for a period of time can gather bacterial growth, too! Do yourself a favor, and make sure your case is in your purse or your pocket before you head out the door.
Wear Kyle Invisalign While Traveling
It may seem like a huge hassle to wear Invisalign as you fly on an airplane or take a long road trip, but traveling is not an excuse to put your aligners aside. Especially if you are traveling within the United States, there’s always a restroom nearby where you can brush and floss your teeth no matter the time of day. The family or friends that you are going to see will want you to continue your treatment and manage your oral health just as you would at home!
Keep the Invisalign Progress Going Strong
You’ve already made such great progress toward straightening your teeth by consistently wearing your aligners, so don’t let the unfamiliar holiday routine ruin that! If you keep your Invisalign in Kyle aligners out for too long, those straight teeth can gradually start to shift, undoing weeks or months of treatment. When you leave your aligners out, putting them back in can become uncomfortable and tight, making you want to wear them even less.
